What is it about?

Ever find yourself wondering what the point of democracy is? In this article, I show that even if most voters are ignorant about politics and motivated by tribalism, electoral democracy is better than nondemocratic alternatives at preventing elites from “capturing” the state for private ends. But that shouldn't make us complacent: the point of my "minimalist" defense of elections is to pave the way for a thicker conception of democracy as the dispersion of social and economic power.
