What is it about?

We present marine reservoir correction values for the south and east coasts of South Africa using well-curated bivalves of known age. This builds on work by Dewar et al. (2012) who did a reservoir correction determination for the west coast.

Why is it important?

This is important in palaeoenvironmental reconstruction studies that use marine samples for age-modeling. Our findings show that the south and east coast have different physiographic differences and ocean dynamics that lead to different ∆R values. The south coast has a higher ∆R-value due to wider continental shelf and upwelling from Agulhas current
