What is it about?
In this article I examine the Italian debate on the surrogacy that has developed within the feminist and LGBT movements starting from the discussion on the law on civil unions at the beginning of 2016. In the text I analyze the most controversial positions of some feminists to show how they revolve around the centrality of the maternal figure. Later I propose a brief history of the social construction of pregnancy and put it in relation to changes in the market and the birth of biopolitics. Finally, I use Angela Putino's thought to show a possible different feminist approach to the issue of surrogacy.
