Asymptotic analysis is used to characterize the physics of a non-diffusive reaction wave propagation process. Non-dimensional analysis is used to identify important parameters. Analytical methods enable an understanding of the length and time scales and energy depostion that characterize the thermo-mechanical response of the gas, thus clarifying the evolution of the physical phenomena. This approach to the problem reveals details not accessible from computational solutions to the relevant equation system.
