What is it about?

This pilot study examined the benefits and outcomes of a brief, motivational group programme for prisoner with a substance use history.

Why is it important?

This study provided evidence for the use of such programmes in helping prisoners move beyond ambivalence and to change problem behaviours.

Perspectives

I have been involved in the development and delivery of this programme and find that as a model for changing problem behaviour it 'fits well' with the prisoner population. Also, I find that a peer group setting is a very powerful mechanism for moving people towards behaviour change
