What is it about?

This easy to read book is based on a 5 year research study which examines from a number of viewpoints the way the media establishes and facilitates public opinion about courts and judges. It also sets out a pattern for media analysis which identifies when a publicly funded organisation is the target of discourses of disapproval leading to the discourse of direction. This area of public opinion formation is rigorously examined and detailed using communication and public opinion theories.

Why is it important?

It clearly examines why the Judiciary and Courts and their independence is necessary to maintain public order and well being in our society. It leads the examination that media are not benign in their reporting and seek to direct the way such publicly funded organisations should be concerned. Any communications adviser who works for a public funded organisation should seek to understand how and why the media use conflict and other theoretical principles to direct opprobrium. From fear discourse to the risk society this books examines and suggests ways in which discourses of disapproval work.

Perspectives

I have written this in defence of Courts and Judges and the Rule of Law. For too long the media have sensationalised and penalised the Courts for doing as the law demands to Administer the Laws of the Land according to laws passed by their Parliaments.
