What is it about?

Chapter 11 summarizes the history and the development of various classes of aerodynamic forms of air cushion craft that have been pursued across the world. From the rudimentary developments in the US to the operational large high speed versions developed in Soviet Russia the technology is explored in detail. Theories and experiments on basic shapes and propulsion schemes are analysed and compared for design use.

Why is it important?

Much of the original analytical work on basic shaping from multiple sources has been pulled together for the first time to show the detail that is now available to the high speed aerodynamic air cushion craft designer. This important data base provides a guide on how to improve upon the earlier designs and develop practical machines for both commercial and military use.

Perspectives

As a designer and program manager of such craft, the author provides a "hands-on"perspective that will aid future researchers and designers in this field.
