What is it about?
Chapter 10 summarizes a major effort by the US Navy to evaluate the many different candidates for a large ship (frigate size) capable of operating across the oceans of the world at high speed. This project included work by several nations, many laboratories and full scale operational craft to examine the key technologies involved and mission usefulness. The work by both private companies and governmental laboratories that encompassed new hull forms, unique subsystem solutions and special features are included in this chapter.

Why is it important?
This chapter presents the information for the first time as an important contribution to future high speed marine craft designers. It represents the last time the US Navy had embarked on such an in-depth evaluation of such advanced craft directed at a specific naval mission use with cost-effectiveness as the criteria.
