What is it about?

Chapter 2 goes further into the successful high speed marine craft and provides more background on the technologies involved. It also introduces the inventors of such craft to provide an understanding of what they were setting out to accomplish to bring many of such craft to successful operation around the world.

Why is it important?

History has shown that many inventions have been used in ways other than that intended by the original designers. Because of the technological boundaries being pushed in some cases of high speed marine craft it is important to introduce the reader to the many different types of craft and to lay the groundwork for the later technical chapters where more detail is provided.

Perspectives

Personal involvement or interaction with several of the key designers and programs gives the author a unique perspective on the thinking behind and aims of the original developments.
