What is it about?

Supersonic commercial airplanes behave differently than conventional subsonic airplanes during takeoff. New, innovative procedures can be used to help reduce takeoff noise. This is an analytic study of two advanced procedures for a notional supersonic business jet.

Why is it important?

Several companies are hoping to build supersonic commercial transports in the next decade. New regulatory standards and reference procedures for noise need to be developed before certification of these airplanes begins.

Perspectives

We hope that this study helps international aviation regulatory bodies by providing the information they need to develop new airworthiness regulations for supersonic commercial airplanes.
