What is it about?
I present observations of the spectacular low surface brightness galaxy Malin 1, and discuss their consequence in terms of the evolution of this type of galaxies.

Why is it important?
The origin of very extended disk in galaxies, and their evolution, is still very much debated. New observatories allow us to study this diffuse, hard to observe, objects. It offers a new perspective on galaxy evolution.
Perspectives
In several of my works, I have been interested in star formation on galaxy scales, and especially at low gas densities. Malin 1 is one of the more extreme case in which we can look at how diffuse and low density objects evolves and form stars.
