Why is it important?
Islands as center of evolution and biodiversity face special challenges in conservation. It is important that international conventions and agreements take account of island specificity and support their conservation efforts.
Perspectives
In my half-century of work with islands, I have helped to build recognition of their special needs, and supported them in becoming recognized internationally. This article documents their success in international negotiations.
