What is it about?
Creating good jobs for all, as argued in the report of the International Panel for Social Progress, certainly requires greater flexibility in labor markets; the creation of social protection systems to cover all workers; the provision of broad access to education and skill formation; equal opportunities and non-discrimination. The paper argues, however, that good jobs for all, largely depends on maintaining a level of aggregate demand consistent with full employment, which is precisely the role of macroeconomic policy.

Why is it important?
This simple reminder is most relevant at a time when policy discussions about the challenge of creating good jobs for a large majority of workers is not confronting the importance of fiscal policies in stimulating aggregate demand and employment creation through socially desirable investments in infrastructure, skill formation, direct employment creation and redistributive policies.
Perspectives
I am grateful to the editors of this volume for the invitation to write this contribution. It gave me the opportunity to learn about the very interesting work done by the International Panel for Social Progress.
