What is it about?
The measure covers two aspects of relationships (care and control). Ideally partners are high on 'care' and lower but not completely absent on 'control'). The measure is freely available and easy to administer. It has now been translated into Spanish, Chinese and Japanese and seems to have been able to be used in those cultures.

Why is it important?
The perception of low care and/or high control renders people vulnerable to depression. It also helps to identify points for potential change and intervention in relationships.
Perspectives
The measure was developed using similar methodology to the Parental Bonding Instrument. Both a re freely available and continue to be used in research and clinical work.
