What is it about?
The transmitted text at Satires I.3.120-1 (ut ferula caedas meritum maiora subire verbera non vereor) is seen to be sound. The construction (ut=ne in a clause of fearing dependent on a negative verb) is imitated from the Greek. It is suggested that the expression used by Livy at 28.22.11-12 may have been inspired by Horace's experiment.
