What is it about?

This paper looks into factors that pose challenges for Australian Indigenous students at university, but focuses on what success at tertiary level looks like and the mechanisms that assist in students achieving such success. This insight is gained from Indigenous students themselves and tutors employed as part of the Indigenous Tutoring Assistance Scheme (ITAS).

Why is it important?

This paper focuses on success of Indigenous students at tertiary level. It is believed that the findings from this case study may be useful for other institutions seeking to move away from merely focusing on the challenges faced by Indigenous students, and looking towards their success at tertiary level.

Perspectives

I believe this article will offer readers food for thought in terms of providing support for Indigenous students at tertiary level. The quotes gained from participants, particularly the student participants were, for me, inspirational. It hope it can contribute to further educational achievements of Indigenous students.
