What is it about?

This paper hypothesizes an evolutionary mechanism that is more interconnected than the usual mechanisms of natural selection and genetic drift. The possibility of evolution by a simple deterministic process is entertained.

Why is it important?

The proposed Lévy-stable model of molecular evolution differs from other fractal models in that its rate agrees with the infinite-variance generalization of the central limit theorem.
