What is it about?

Therapeutic possibilities of the bath are multiple. It must be considered that even though the environment is completely different from that of a hospital, there is the possibility of controlling other therapeutic factors (recreative activities, diet, etc.) and the patient's attitude is usually very positive. That is why the spa has become an especially useful site for therapeutic, preventive and educational health activities. The main purpose of coming to a spa center is undoubtedly to use mineral-medicinal waters. Those having the greatest utility for the treatment of prevalent diseases in the elderly are sulphur, radioactive and carbon dioxide waters. These can be applied of diverse forms and the most suitable techniques must be chosen in each case. Specifically, in the elderly balneokinesitherapy, atmiatry (respiratory treatment with aerosol sprays) and hydropinic cure could have of importance due to their utility in the aging processes, although this does not preclude the possibility that this group of population would obtain some benefit from other techniques or other types of waters.
