The cardiac troponins isoform I and T are both used to diagnose acute myocardial infarction in patients presenting to the Emergency Department with chest pain.

Why is it important?

It is recognised many factors both clinical and analytical affect the accurate determination of cardiac troponin concentration in blood.

Perspectives

This review provides an overview of the clinical and analytical aspects of cardiac troponin. More recently, high-sensitivity cardiac troponins assays have been released and are currently being introduced in hospitals around the world.
