Why is it important?
This early paper found that responses dropped when the infants were rendered monocular. We did not find the predicted change in how responses were driven at the time of onset of binocularity. Subsequent, much more detailed studies have shown that accommodative vergence (the blur-driven AC/A ratio) is not the main drive to responses and that the influence of blur remains relatively weak throughout life. Developmental changes occur in disparity and proximal drives, not blur-driven ones.
