What is it about?
Species complexes contain taxa that are often challenging to identify and study at the species level. Using molecular tools, we have split three significant complexes, designating 20 individual species.

Why is it important?
The three species complexes contain sacoglossans that are considered (1) model species for the study of endosymbiosis or kleptoplasty, (2) target species for the pharmaceutical industry, and (3) potential control agents for marine biological control of invasive seaweeds, including killer algae (Caulerpa taxifolia).
