What is it about?

Benchmark on slip-rolling resistance up to 3.9 GPa of state-of-the-art alloys with alternative alloys, like steels alloyed with nitrogen, silicon or molybdenum and also Maraging-type and PM alloys. Can uncoated alloys offer firction rediuction similar to DLC coated alloys?

Why is it important?

The consequence of lightweight design in order to save resources will be downsizing. Downsizing (power-to-weight ratio) and higher speeds lead to a rise in Hertzian contact pressures in combination with an increase in surface or oil temperatures. This requires slip-rolling resistance alloys with higher strength, toughness and impact load resistance.
