What is it about?
The Macqueen's bustard is the favorite pray for falconers in the Middle East. Overhunting and biotope destruction led to a reduce of numbers of this bird.

Why is it important?
Our material at the beginning of the investigations was based on bustard carcasses that were hunted abroad, smuggled into the country, confiscated and died in sanctuaries or in private collections. After 2012 birds were bred in captivity and released to the wild. Subsequently, the frequency of some of the parasites changed.
Perspectives
The life cycle of some of the parasites had established in the UAE due to the presence of suitable intermediate hosts, others (coccidia, biting lice) got importance due to high densities of hosts at breeding facilities
