What is it about?

Glycine is the simplest amino acid and has widespread use in the chemical, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and food industries. In this study, the ultrasound-assisted polymorphic transformation of β-glycine to α-glycine was analyzed. In addition, stability, an important physical property of polymorphic crystals, was also investigated under different storage conditions.

Why is it important?

This study showed that the ultrasound power was a significant factor influencing glycine phase transformation time. Sonication yielded more rounded surfaces of the crystals and ultrasound treatment provided higher storage stability performance.
