What is it about?
Prediction of mechanical properties of ultra-thin woven fibre composite is challenging special in predicting bending behaviour. Paper describes about a homogenization procedure which produce an ABD matrix that can be used to define Section Properties of shell elements. Predicted properties are validated for both in-plane and out-of-plane properties obtained through physical testing.

Why is it important?
Folding and deployment simulations of ultra-thins structures with one to two plies of thin woven fibre composites require defining material properties in the form of Section Properties for shell elements specially in predicting bending behaviour. This paper provides a micro-scale model that will generate the required ABD stiffness matrix without going into complex multi-scale modelling techniques.
Perspectives
I hope this article provides insight into predicting mechanical properties of thin woven composites with a simple approach.
