What is it about?

Pedestrian flow behavior for shopping street were studied and recorded via unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Videos were recorded along with geolocation data to further analysis. It is a feasible to use UAV to collect data from outdoor environment in the cost-effective manner. However electric cables, umbrellas, and over-exposed lighting underneath were major obstructions with this approach. 2-km-long shopping street in Chiang Mai, Thailand was used as a case study location.

Why is it important?

Overhead camera mounted underneath unmanned aerial vehicle was used instead of still camera at the street level to detect pedestrians' behavior with non-obstructive view of sight.

Perspectives

With the drone regulation in Thailand and the small streets were challenged in this research.
