What is it about?

Induced pluripotent stem cells are easier to get for drug discovery and promise to be the same as human embryonic stem cells. Although they looks like the same under microscope, induced pluripotent stem cells are actually very different from human embryonic stem cells internally, in cellular signaling.

Why is it important?

There is a big hype about induced pluripotent stem cells recently, assuming that it can replace human embryonic stem cells in research. This study shows, that this is not true, because induced pluripotent stem cells are internally very different.

Perspectives

The heart muscle cells were treated with many medicines and their volume was measured. This technology, 3D high-content screening, is challenging and required very advanced solutions.
