What is it about?

Nurses can play a key role in engaging men in family planning. The nurses interviewed did stereotype men as uninterested in their reproductive health. They also explained men needed further education on how to use condoms correctly.

Why is it important?

There is little evidence to support nurses’ stereotypes, however this can be overcome through training on the diversity of men. Nurses should be supported to have conversations with men on how to use a condom correctly.

Perspectives

I hope this study provides initial insight into the training and support needs of nurses so men can benefit from consultations for family planning.
