What is it about?

Demonstrate the use of POF sensor for detection of crack initiation and propagation in steel tubes with potential application for monitoring segments of offshore structures which experienced high-stress intensities e.g. at welded joints or where geometrical discontinuities occur. The work used the v-OTDR technique for detecting the location of cracks, and by arranging the POF sensor in a serpentine manner, it is possible to monitor the crack propagation accurately.
