What is it about?
This study examines how having access to bank loans and other forms of credit can help businesses in Egypt become more innovative. Using new data from a World Bank survey, the research looks at whether financial support from banks enables companies to develop new products, adopt advanced technologies, or improve how they operate. The results highlight how improving access to bank credit can drive innovation, boost productivity, and support economic growth in Egypt. This research offers valuable insights for policymakers, financial institutions, and businesses aiming to strengthen innovation in developing economies.

Why is it important?
**Explanation of Uniqueness and Impact:** Our study provides new evidence on how access to bank credit affects business innovation in Egypt, a topic that has been underexplored in the context of developing economies. Using the latest data from the World Bank Enterprise Survey, we highlight the critical role financial support plays in fostering innovation, particularly in regions where funding opportunities are limited. This work is timely given the global emphasis on enhancing economic resilience through innovation and can guide policymakers and financial institutions in creating strategies to unlock the innovative potential of firms, driving economic growth and development.
Perspectives
Writing this article was a deeply rewarding experience as it allowed us to delve into the intersection of finance and innovation, two critical drivers of economic development. Working on this research gave me a better understanding of how something as fundamental as access to bank credit can empower businesses to think creatively and adopt new technologies, especially in developing countries like Egypt. We hope this article sparks conversations among policymakers, financial institutions, and businesses about the untapped potential of supporting innovation through better financial inclusion. More than anything, I hope it contributes to meaningful change and inspires further research in this area.
