What is it about?

An example of a wastewater-effluent-dominated river flowing in a heavily modified urban environment is provided. Runoff changes are quantified that result from the following three factors operating simultaneously: climate, wastewater, and urbanization.

Why is it important?

The results demonstrate that in a heavily modified environment, the hydrological effects of human activity can exceed those caused by climate variability.

Perspectives

Special attention should be given to empirical evidence on the climate and human-induced effects.
