Glow discharge mass spectrometry and optical emission spectroscopy used to study the role of asymmetric charge transfer in 'low power' GD as in the Astrum GD-MS.

Why is it important?

Asymmetric charge transfer process is a very important mechanism for the production of ground and, more usually, excited ions of the elements analysed in analytical glow discharges such as Grimm-type and fast-flow sources running in low-pressure noble gases (~15–40 W, ~5 hPa). In this paper using both GD-MS and GD-OES, we have shown that it still important if power reduced (~1 kV and ~3 mA).
