What is it about?

This paper reviews the barriers and challenges faced by Malaysia in assessing the potential of the wind as a viable renewable energy source. It also highlights the industry-political inflicted status quo on fossil fuels dominance in the power generation mix in Malaysia amid the technical challenges of developing wind energy. The paper reviews the global wind energy development and suggests selected regulatory mechanisms of supporting renewable energy development in Malaysia.

Why is it important?

My findings show that strong political wills and regulatory supports are crucial in wind energy development. The reviews on global wind energy development in this paper is a good reference towards our better understanding on divestment from fossil fuels and increased investment in wind energy in selected countries.
