What is it about?

Conservative approach like direct sowing on unplowed soil with vegetation cover systems can improve the nutritional quality of rainfed NERICAs and their sustainable production under poor oxisol soil in sub-Saharan Africa.

Why is it important?

The world’s population will hit 9 billion by 2050. In order to feed this escalating population, the world requires a global revolution and cereal production potential must increase by more than 80% in sub-Saharan Africa countries.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long standing collaborations. This article underlined that the promotion of live vegetation cover with annual leguminous plants as well as moderate amendments could quantitatively satisfy the nutritional needs of populations with less negative impacts on the environment in conditions of soil biophysical unsuitability in Sub-Saharan Africa.
