What is it about?

This paper discusses how a new and improved stock market index for Finland is created for 1912-1969. When combined with the WI-index and OMXH indices from 1970 onwards, one can study the whole history of Finnish stock market from October 1912 to present day.

Why is it important?

Total return index measures the real stock market performance. Having a long and high quality index allows one to study the past and draw conclusing for the future. This is important e.g. for portfolio managers and risk management.

Perspectives

This was the first publication to come out from our joint research project. We continued our research project and the index was further improved later on.
