Why is it important?

Usually advanced imaging techniques aid in differentiating infectious from neoplastic processes. This case is an example that atypical features may be found, and therefore correlation with conventional sequences and consideration of clinical picture is of utmost importance.

Perspectives

In this report the phases of brain abscess formation are discussed as well as the differentiation between abscess and neoplasia in the light of advanced MRI techniques.
