What is it about?

A dangerous failure of the scientific process is exposed and the situation is corrected. Oscillatory thermal instability was well-known to chemical engineers from the 1950s to the 1990s, and a great many theory and experimental papers on the topic were published during that period in the mainstream chemical engineering literature. But since then there seems to have been a collective amnesia on an entire branch of mainstream chemical engineering research.
