What is it about?

A suitable combined treatment of MAP + 1-MCP was predefined to preserve fresh basil leaves. It was possible to achieve twice-longer shelf life respecting to room conditions at 11 °C.

Why is it important?

Edible herbs like basil are very fregile with short shelf lives. The predefined combined system allows to preserve its quality properties resulting in lower losses and greater opportunities to market this product.

Perspectives

We have established a strategy to predefine the most appropriate MAP system to optimally preserve fresh products in addition to the application of plant growth regulators such as 1-MCP. This strategy can be applied to any product by entering the appropriate parameters.
