What is it about?
In this study we developed a suitable modified atmosphere packaging with steady O2 and CO2 concentrations to preserve feijoa fruits. The possible packaging systems were simulated beforehand to predict the gas concentrations inside the packages. In addition, mathematical models were proposed to estimate the changes in the firmness and color of the packaged fruits along the storage time.

Why is it important?
The equilibrium modified atmosphere packaging developed in this study will allow to growers and producers of feijoa fruits to increase the storage and shelf life of this produce and reduce losses. Also, the models of firmness and color can be a useful tool to predict a storage time corresponding to a specific packaging conditions for this fruit and for other produce too.
