What is it about?
The maleic anhydride (MA) -grafted polyolefin (PO), MA-g-PO, is an important material in polypropylene (PP) compounds for automotive applications. The graft ratio of MA-g-PO requires determining to design the PP compound. However, the determination of the graft ratios, which are below 0.1 wt%, is difficult by conventional methods. We have developed a novel method of determining a wide range of graft ratios in MA-g-PO.

Why is it important?
The combination of the chemical reaction with the quantification by NMR enabled the determination of a graft ratio below 0.1 wt% in MA-g-PO. This combination is a simpler and more accurate mathod than the conventional methods.
