What is it about?

Facile synthesis and interesting crystals, fast kinetics of adsorption - where to look? Use flexible building blocks soluble in aqueous solutions. Design a Schiff base that could maintain integrity in presence of zinc ions in aqous solution and use different carboxylic acids. You can use soluble carbonates to slowly deprotonate acids and zinc carbonate will not precipitate if you are coutious enough.

Why is it important?

Nice system for a nice physical study. It can adsorb dyes from aquous solutions, nice colours.

Perspectives

I can give you another examples of nice crystalline polymers from aqueous solutions (!), you will see soon.
