What is it about?

Electrolytic extraction of metals from their oxide precursors in molten salt with low energy consumption and CO2 emission.

Why is it important?

A new disengaging strategy is demonstrated that prevent oxide ion discharge at a graphite anode by using molten MgCl2 and its mixture with KCl and NaCl which has very low solubility for the oxide ion.
