What is it about?

We analyzed the COVID-19-related tweets to understand what de/motivates the public about vaccination. We explored the issue from different perspectives like geo-location, political orientation, etc. We explored where the public stands on the matter and how it changed over time. We identified intrinsic motivation as the key to encouraging the public. The dataset and models developed during this study are publicly available and can be easily generalized for any other research field.

Why is it important?

We attacked the issue of motivating the public from different perspectives and identified how best to encourage them. We published our models and dataset publicly for future use. Our proposed approach can help policymakers in future emergencies to reach the public avoiding the distractions of misinformation.

Perspectives

This study provided us with insight into what motivates the public. We identified that misinformation, while a tremendous obstacle, is not the only reason for demotivating the public. We also found an interesting perspective on motivational communication.
