What is it about?

This research paper discusses the corrosion inhibition of X-52 carbon steel exposed to microbial attack using single and mixed chemical formulations. It is about controlling the effect of acidithiobascillus thiooxidan on carbon steel buried in soils inhabited by the microbe.

Why is it important?

It is cheaper to adopt the chemical combinations adopted in this study for microbial corrosion of this kind as compared with conventional methods of control which are quite expensive.

Perspectives

The work is unique in the sense that, it brings to bear, a novel hybrid formulation of the mixed chemicals within defined limits for maximum pipe protection in relation to pipes exposed to acidithiobascillus thiooxidan.

Despite the limiting effect of sodium nitrite in its other inhibitor formulations, its presence in the mixture of all three components, improved the performance of the other two chemicals giving the best inhibition efficiency of 85.68%.
