What is it about?
Ratite bird bone (emu tibiotarsus) was smeared with peripheral human blood. Bloodstained areas were SEM examined in low-vacuum mode and compared.

Why is it important?
Bloodstains reveal both intra- and inter-smear differences and similarities. The SEM examination allows the detection of bloodstains on ratite bone, as well as it suggest that detection is independent of bone origin (either mammal or ratite).
