What is it about?

This standard intends to help manufacturers classify the types and families of cushions currently in the market, and assist the clinicians with their prescription. Standards are not regulations. A Standard is a voluntary document. Therefore, for it to be truly useful, it has to be clear and yield accessible information. This work intends to support clinicians in their decision and allow patient to re-engage with the Manufacturing/Design industry using the language of engineering.

Why is it important?

Characterisation of cushions performance is a clinical tool but also, very importantly, a tool for the market.

Perspectives

End users will benefit broadly from a good understanding of performance of their assistive healthcare components. Clinicians can use the results from this study to draw conclusions on components performance. National Health Systems will benefit from these results because they can allow them make better choices based on performance, and not on fancy brands, with the financial implications this may have.
