What is it about?

In the present work a methodology has been presented for scheduling of the products on the basis of reconfiguration effort in a multi-product line. For scheduling of products, three criteria have been considered; reconfiguration effort, profit over cost and due date. Integrated approach of Shannon entropy and TOPSIS has been used for scheduling of the products.

Why is it important?

Scheduling is the one of the most important steps in production control. Scheduling is concerned with when work shall be performed on a product or part. Scheduling in manufacturing system can be done on the basis of some rules. It can be done for one criterion as mentioned above or more than one criterion. If more than one criterion is considered, MCDM can be used. In this work used integrated approach of Shannon entropy and TOPSIS has been used for scheduling.

Perspectives

This paper deals with the two methods; shannon entropy and TOPSIS. Shanon entropy has been used for calculation of weights while TOPSIS has been used to find the ranking of part families.
