What is it about?
We use geometric morphometrics to classify camel breeds. We were able to differentiate between two predefined breed groups using torso size and shape.

Why is it important?
Unlike other livestock, camels do not have clearly-defined breeds with clear breed standards. Thus, the classification of camel types into breeds is important since it allows for performing more informed and targeted selection and improvement of stock. This study introduces a novel method for breed discrimination (i.e. geometric morphometrics).
Perspectives
This is the first publication from our camel-research lab that focuses exclusively on phenotype, and the first one that uses the geometric morphometric method.
