What is it about?
We have shown that overexpression of an enzyme-steroid sulfatase-in the liver promoted bile acid elimination and alleviated bile acid-induced cholestasis in mice.

Why is it important?
We uncovered a novel regulator in the protection of bile acid-induced cholestasis and liver toxicity. We also have provided evidence that overexpression of an endobiotic metabolism enzyme may activate a nuclear receptor by regulating the homeostasis of its endogenous ligands.
