What is it about?

We investigated whether patient-specific quantitative PCR could identify very low levels of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in cerebrospinal fluid that routine microscopy may miss. The molecular test detected additional disease and may complement cytology, although some discordant results and the small sample size show that further validation is needed.

Why is it important?

More sensitive detection of CNS leukaemia could improve risk assessment and monitoring. A validated molecular test may help clinicians recognise disease earlier while researchers work toward reducing unnecessary CNS-directed treatment.

Perspectives

From my perspective, this work matters because More sensitive detection of CNS leukaemia could improve risk assessment and monitoring. I hope the findings support further research and informed, evidence-based decisions.
